Laoag City—Energy Logics of the Delgado Group is set to pursue its planned 670-megawatt wind and solar project in the municipalities of Burgos and Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte.

Marco Delgado, managing director of the Energy Logics presented to members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan  the company’s proposed Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in response to a provincial resolution mandating all investors of Ilocos Norte to present their CSR projects prior to endorsement of their project.

According to Mr. Delgado, the company is ready to sponsor scholarship grants in the Maritime Academy as the company is also in need of marine engineers and deck officers.

Since the inception of the project in 2013, he said at least 25 students from Ilocos Norte are now enjoying a full time four-year scholarship at the company-affiliated Maritime Academy.

Aside from the immediate hiring and training for hotel and spa staff in cruise ships, he said that they can also work closely with the provincial tourism office to bring in more tourists to Ilocos Norte as they have links with various travel agencies such as American Express, UHI and trip moba.com.

As part of the medium term development plan, Mr. Delgado proposed that a percentage of the income derived from the wind and solar project operation go to environment preservation and job generation for the province.

In the Philippines, the development of renewable energy such as wind, hydro and solar remains a bright investment spot as the country is blessed with abundant natural resources that can be harnessed to generate enough power to be self-sufficient and cost-effective.

Over the next five years, Energy Logics plans to put up wind farms that can generate a total 420 MW, and a solar power portfolio that can produce more than 250 MW in additional capacity.
