Batac City asks charter day to be declared as official holiday

Batac CITY—The Sangguniang Panlungsod here has passed a resolution requesting Pres. Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III to declare June 23, 2014 as a holiday in the city for the celebration of its charter day.

Batac councilor Florencio Laud, sponsor of the measure, said the request for the holiday would be both for festive commemoration as well as the official charter day.

Relative to this, Batac vice mayor Ronald Allan M. Nalupta and the whole council plan to request Rep. Imelda R. Marcos (2^nd district, Ilocos Norte) to sponsor a bill in Congress to institutionalize June 23 as the official charter day of the city.

This way, the city will no longer have to request the Office of the President annually for the declaration of the holiday.

A resolution to this effect would be passed and forwarded to the former first lady soon.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival
